University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host an educational workshop providing an overview of the process of freeze drying food at home on Thursday, May 29, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Cumberland County office, 75 Clearwater Drive in Falmouth. This class is designed for individuals considering purchasing a freeze dryer or those looking to learn more about this method of food preservation.
Participants will gain a comprehensive overview of using a freeze dryer to create high-quality, long-lasting dried fruits, vegetables, snacks and complete meals. The workshop will cover the science behind freeze drying, the necessary equipment involved, and techniques for safely preparing and storing dried foods. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sample freeze-dried foods.
