2018 5k Spawning Run

Members of the community are invited to join the UMaine American Fisheries Society Student Subunit's fourth annual 5k Spawning Run. All proceeds from the run go toward outreach and education programs with local K-12 schools. The run starts outside of Nutting Hall at 9 a.m., and is followed by a raffle for many prizes. Out of Darkness Walk

It is coordinated by the University Counseling Center in collaboration with other offices on campus. Presented by Fogler Library and Wheatland Geospatial Programs, "Hierarchical Modeling and Analysis of Spatial-Temporal Data in R" will explore recent advancements in hierarchical random effects models using Markov chain Monte Carlo methods with application and examples for statistical ecology. The focus is on linear and generalized linear modeling frameworks that accommodate spatial and temporal associations. Lecture and exercises offer an applied perspective on model specification, identifiability of parameters, and computational considerations for Bayesian inference from posterior distributions. Ceremony: Signing of Memorandum of Understanding with the Penobscot Nation

On Thursday, May 10, the University of Maine and the Penobscot Nation will sign a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing their collaborations in the past decade to help manage the tribe’s cultural heritage. University of Maine President Susan J. Hunter and Penobscot Nation Chief Kirk Francis are among the leaders expected to attend the ceremony that begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Hudson Museum.
