The UMaine Writing Center presents a Speed Reading workshop series on March 8, March 22, and April 12 at 2 p.m. Speed reading is often misunderstood as reading a paragraph’s first and last sentence or a few key words — but this is definitely not the case. Speed reading actually strengthens our abilities to focus and anticipate genre conventions. In many ways it takes more mental discipline to engage with textual material than traditional reading habits. In this three part series students will learn the skills of active reading and how to maximize their critical processing and retention capabilities. Advertise this RSVP event to your students.
