An upcoming performance will mark the end of an era in the University of Maine’s School of Performing Arts. On April 18, the School of Performing Arts Division of Music will present a performance by UMaine’s Percussion Ensemble, the final one to be led by professor of music Stuart Marrs.
Among the pieces to be presented is the iconic ‘Ionisation’, a work by the noted composer Edgard Varese. The performance will see a dozen or more percussionists playing some 40 different instruments.
The show is at 7:30 p.m. in Minsky Recital Hall, with a reception to follow in the Hudson Museum at the Collins Center for the Arts. Admission is free.
