University of Maine Cooperative Extension, in collaboration with the Maine Campus Compact, and with generous sponsorship by Sodexo, has offered the Maine Hunger Dialogue (MHD) annually since 2014. In 2022, this conference will become the Maine Hunger Dialogue and Climate Action Summit with a focus on the intersection of food security and climate change.
Students across the state (colleges and upper high school) are invited to participate in this conference featuring speakers, breakout sessions, and the option to apply for a grant around the topics of Hunger and Climate Change. At the conference, they will:
Discuss the intersection between food systems and climate change.
Learn from experts about hunger and climate change.
Apply for grants to support projects that address food security on campus or in their community.
Participate in a hunger-related service project
Students can attend as individuals but team participation with a faculty mentor is encouraged. Teams will have the opportunity to participate in a cooking challenge and also get guidance on crafting a grant-funded project for their campus or school.
Sponsorships of Mini-Grants or school teams are still available.
