Join Cooperative Extension for a two-part workshop on how to build a 48′ x 22′ high tunnel. This workshop will take place at the UMaine Gardens at Tidewater Farm (Presumpscot Point Rd, Falmouth, ME 04105) on Monday, Oct. 17 and 24 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On Monday, Oct. 17, we’ll learn how to build a structurally sound high tunnel, including:
Techniques for squaring the site, setting the ground posts, and the tools required for this step.
The assembly and installation of the bows (aka hoops), purlins (run across the top of the greenhouse), and wind bracing. Participants will receive hands-on experience with this process.
On Monday, Oct. 24, we’ll learn how to install baseboards and frame the end walls, including:
The different options for baseboards and the pros and cons of each.
Techniques for framing the end walls using different materials and accounting for doors and shutter vents. Participants will receive hands-on experience framing with wood and installing polycarbonate.
