University of Maine Cooperative Extension is excited to have Dr. John Pecchia of Penn State University lead this webinar on the cultivation of specialty mushrooms. Dr. Pecchia serves as the Director of the Mushroom Research Center and the Mushroom Spawn Laboratory at Penn State and conducts research on many aspects of mushroom cultivation. Dr. Pecchia is going to give an overview of specialty mushroom production, covering the wide range of mushroom varieties available for cultivation as well as his experience on which ones are more challenging. He will cover what is needed to start cultivating, both outdoors as well as indoors. Dr. Pecchia will also give an update on a collaborative project that Penn State and the University of Maine have just finished looking at the possibilities and challenges of cultivating morel mushrooms.
Dr. Pecchia is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology at Penn State University.
