Long-term Watershed Research at Bear Brook Watershed (near Beddington), BBWM, is part of long-term research to determine the effects of acid deposition on surface waters and their related watersheds. BBWM program of research encompasses an array of scientific objectives that include acid deposition, climate change and carbon sequestration, nitrogen saturation, base cation depletion, and studies of the evolution of watershed biogeochemistry under prolonged experimental acidification.
Mike Howie, American Forest Management, Ivan Fernandez, University of Maine Professor of Soil Science, Sean Smith, CLimate Change Institute, and Jake Metzler, Forest Society of Maine will welcome attendees to the site to discuss the intersection of science, recovery and climate at a long-term research site, the historical and current research at the site, uncut v. managed forests, and the role of conservation efforts. Michael Jensen from the Maine Forest Service will join the field tour hosts.
