Beginner Beekeeping, York County

January 21, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Participants in this 5-week introductory beekeeping course to be taught once a week for 2.5 hours on Wednesday evenings will learn about:

  • the honey bee colony;
  • constructing hives;
  • spring, summer and fall management;
  • honey production;
  • wintering hives;
  • identification and control of brood diseases; and
  • parasites and predators.

Through the York County Beekeepers Association, students will also have the opportunity to visit local hives for observation and hands-on experience. Beginner Bee School instructor is Larry Peiffer, Master Beekeeper and former Vice President of the Maine State Beekeepers Association.

When: January 21, January 28, February 4, February 11, and February 18 with a snow date of February 25th should a class be cancelled.

Course Fee:

Single registration = $125

Household registration for 2 (1 book) = $220
