Works from 2013–2018 Maine-based artist Steve Bartlett has created a dynamic environment that features large-scale floor sculptures, wall-mounted compositions, and small objects. The exhibition also features several never-before-seen sculptures created in 2017 and 2018. Bartlett’s sculptures are crafted from ash, oak and walnut, and display the artist’s impeccable craftsmanship and inherent joy in the creative process. Join UMaine Extension staff and volunteers in this hands-on, interactive program that will teach participants how to grow and preserve the garden’s harvest. Each session will begin in the Tidewater Gardens as we harvest the fruits and vegetables needed to make jam, pickles, salsa, and more. Then we’ll move to the kitchen and prepare a batch…

Artist Showcase: Passamaquoddy Basketmaker Gabriel Frey

Gabriel Frey, a 13th-generation Passamaquoddy basketmaker, will demonstrate the ancient tradition of brown ash and sweetgrass basketry and  will share new directions that he's taking the tradition. Frey specializes in pack and utility baskets. He integrates his style — including incorporating leather straps and leather liners — with techniques and lessons he learned from his grandfather, Fred Moore. Based on Utah Cooperative Extension’s Discover 4-H Clubs Curriculum, this program will teach participants emergency preparedness skills in the setting of a fictional zombie takeover. Members will learn tips for surviving without electricity, how to prepare for common natural disasters, sheltering in place and so much more. All lessons have hands on components including Bingo, making fire starters, creating survival bars, playing Zombie games and more. This event meets once a week on Wednesdays starting  July 11 and ending August 8.
