Winter Family Day at Hirundo Wildlife Refuge

Hirundo Wildlife Refuge’s Winter Family Day offers a great line-up of programs and activities for all ages and abilities. Ultimate dogsledding experience — Alexander Therriault with his two teams will take you you for a ride. For the second year, the Machias Savings Bank of Brewer is sponsoring the dogsledding. Thank you for allowing all participants to catch a free ride.
Activities include a guided nature walk with Bucky Owen, cross-country ski race for entry levels adult, junior and child, curling (weather dependent) or snowshoe biathlon, animal snow sculpture competition and also many self-guided activities: snow shoeing, curling for fun, soap bubbles, winter scavenger hunt and more… including campfire free hot chocolate hotdogs and donuts for sale.

Directions from the South: Take the I-95 N to ME-43 exit 197 to Old Town/Hudson. Turn left onto Rt. 43 (Hudson Rd). Go west 4.75 mi and look for the large red sign on your right, this is Gate 1. Take Gate 1 off Rt. 43 and follow the dirt road for ~1/2 mile to the Pine Tree parking area. The Parker Reed shelter is 100 m further on the left.
