Pandemic Pivot: Innovation and Resilience in Maine’s Seafood Community (online)

Join the Alliance for Maine’s Marine Economy for a conversation with Boe Marsh, owner and founder of Community Shellfish LLC, and Dianne Tilton, executive director of the Downeast Institute, to learn how COVID-19 has impacted their business/institution and what innovative strategies they are using to adapt to changing markets and consumer needs. Community Shellfish has repurposed the historic Bremen Lobster Pound into a local “hub” for aquaculture and seafood processing.

In the wake of the global Pandemic, Marsh is maximizing strategic collaborations, and actively building market opportunities outside of Maine for shellfish, lobster and aquaculture products. The Downeast Institute (DEI) is a nonprofit marine research facility, hatchery, and education center with business incubation space, located on Great Wass Island in Beals. Due to the Pandemic’s disruption, DEI switched gears towards commercializing their innovations, generating revenue through demonstration farms and advancing their partnerships with businesses. The goal of the Pandemic Pivot is to share stories, innovations, and inspire people to try new things. This event is hosted by the Alliance for Maine’s Marine Economy (Alliance), and sponsored by the Maine Technology Institute, Maine Community Foundation, and Alliance members.

This event will be held via Zoom.
