Mitchell Center Talk – The Role of Municipal Government in Implementing State Policy Priorities

November 29, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This talk is available virtually via Zoom. Registration is required. Go to umaine.edu/mitchellcenter to register and receive Zoom connection information.

Cathy Conlow and Kate Dufour, Maine Municipal Association

Municipal governments provide traditional services such as police, fire, road maintenance and recreation. While they can be more effective and efficient at providing services because they are closest to the people, state mandates have expanded the list of municipal responsibilities over time, often without additional state aid. The presenters will discuss how municipalities can help the state reach its goals, whether on climate change, economic development or addressing housing needs.
