June Foraging: Bark Baskets and Flower Fritters
June 23, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm
A hands-on nature connection workshop for all.
Join Hirundo Wildlife Refuge for a day of foraging and friendship as we learn how to be wild harvesters who take care of the land even as the land takes care of us. We’ll get to know each other and the forests of Maine a bit better by identifying and harvesting bark and flowers, with the intention of making folded baskets and campfire fritters to remind ourselves of the abundance and generosity of the natural world.
All are welcome — this class is geared toward adults but children may attend if their caregivers take primary responsibility for them. Accessibility-wise, this class includes light walking along forest paths, with the option of going off-trail. Be prepared for changing weather, bugs, sun, and getting dirty and scratched up to prove that you had an adventure. Bring your own water, lunch and whatever else will enrich your experience (harvesting basket, binoculars, notebook and pen, etc.).
Cost is on a sliding scale, $35/$45/$55; scholarships are available.
