September 19 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

A lecture by author, educator and activist Z. Nicolazzo, assistant professor in the Adult and Higher Education Program, and a faculty associate in the Center for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality at Northern Illinois University.

Nicolazzo examines the legacies of resistance, resilience, and love of trans people, especially the trans women of color who have been all but been erased from what is now known as the LGBT Rights Movement. Nicolazzo’s research focuses on mapping gender across college contexts, with a particular emphasis on affirmative and resilience-based research alongside trans students. Nicolazzo has published on trans college students in a variety of inter/national publications, and is the author of  “Trans* in College: Transgender Students’ Strategies for Navigating Campus Life and the Institutional Politics of Inclusion,” which was awarded the 2017 Publication of the Year by the American Educational Research Association.
