Fruit Trees: Planting Techniques and Early Care

June 9 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

| $25

Fruit trees can be attractive and valuable to home gardeners who not only want to save money by producing more of their own food, but who also want to enjoy many more fruit varieties than are generally found at the grocery store. By picking your fruit when it is ripe, you can enjoy the full flavor that only fruit from your own trees can offer.

In this class, the instructor will explain and demonstrate how to plant fruit trees and discuss early care techniques for successful growth. Classroom instruction will be followed by participants putting into practice what they’ve learned by planting two apple trees in the orchard at Tidewater Farm. Please dress appropriately to be outside and be prepared for hands-on learning.

Instructor: Thomas Hoerth was the city Arborist and Tree Warden for Bath from 1998 until 2015. He is an adjunct instructor at Southern Maine Community College, a consulting forester for the Bath Water District, and owns a private tree service called Winter Greens. He also co-owns and operates a 13-acre farm, located in Bath and called Middle Hoerth Winter Greens, with his wife Jennifer.
