This year we are pleased to announce two outstanding guest speakers, Dr. Jeff Lehmkuhler, Associate Extension Professor and Extension Beef Cattle Specialist, and Dr. Gregg Rentfrow, Associate Extension Professor and State Meat Specialist, from the University of Kentucky.
Kentucky ranks as eighth in the nation for beef cattle and has the most cattle of any state in the eastern United States with 1,033,000 head of beef cattle and 33,823 beef cattle producers.
Dr. Lehmkuhler will give a talk focusing on forage and pasture nutrition and Dr. Rentfrow will highlight the new Beef Alternative Marketing (BAM) cuts by doing a cutting demonstration on ribeye primals, and then we will grill and eat the steaks for lunch.
Dr. Rentfrow is also a tremendous wealth of knowledge on grass-fed vs. grain-fed beef.
In addition, UMaine Extension would like to introduce our newest Dairy Specialist, Dr. Glenda Pereira to beef producers by sharing her knowledge of forages.
Dr. Colt W. Knight, Associate UMaine Extension Professor and State Livestock Specialist, will discuss the science behind pasture growth, management, health, and setting proper stocking rates.
More speakers are to be announced.
