If you are a sheeSheep in barnp or goat producer and would like to gain the skills and knowledge to fight the barber pole worm (Haemonchus contorutus) in your sheep and goats, then the one day FAMACHA workshop is for you. You will learn how to use the blood color of the capillaries around the eye of the sheep or goat to determine the degree of infection. The barber pole worm is a blood sucking internal parasite that is a common cause of death and poor-doing in small ruminants.
The workshop will be presented by Dr. Thomas Settlemire & Dr. Richard Brzozowski. Participants will receive an information packet, record sheets and a FAMACHA card.

The Maine Bound Outdoor Adventure Center in collaboration with Hirundo Wildlife Refuge offers the first of two canoe clinics at the Refuge. The second clinic is on July 13 at 1PM in the same location. Your instructor, Jimmy Haller, will focus on paddling strokes, rescue techniques, canoe dynamics and canoeing safety. Join this character (adapted from American Indian oral traditions) in a fast-paced and fun Omnidome show that explores lunar phases, eclipses, sky motions and other puzzles. Engaging and immersive, Earth, Moon, & Sun illustrates the natural rhythms and cycles of our sky and the host will add a live tour of the season’s constellations. This family show is appropriate for children ages 6–11 and their families.

Fun, creative, and thought provoking, the SYFS, Level 1 Curriculum is a dynamic and comprehensive five-Lesson facilitation Training Series full of activities, “lecturettes” and potential aha! moments.

These mysterious graveyards of dead stars have fascinated generations. “Black Holes” explores the history, physics, and mystery of black holes. Witness the bending of light, the skewing of perception, and the dizzying descent into a black hole. This show incorporates some of the most visually stunning three-dimensional effects ever created for the OmniDome planetarium system.

The University of Maine, in collaboration with the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance, will host a half-day symposium June 21 on the emerald ash borer, an invasive beetle that attacks and kills ash trees, and what can be done to slow its spread in Maine.
The free event starts at 8:30 a.m. in Wells Conference Center, Room 2 on the UMaine campus and ends with networking at 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
Coordinated by faculty at the Senator George J. Mitchell Center and Maine’s Sustainability Solutions Initiative, the symposium will include speakers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture; Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service; the U.S. Forest Service; the Maine Forest Service; the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; and Wabanaki tribal resource gatherers who rely on brown ash trees for the art and tradition of basket weaving that has been handed down through generations.

“Earth’s Wild Ride” is a story from 200 years in the future that features a moon colonist and his grandchildren as they watch the earth during a solar eclipse. The grandfather recalls the nature of the blue planet where he was born and its most dramatic events including volcano eruptions, dinosaur extinctions and torrential storms. This Omnidome spectacle crosses time and space through computer animation and immerses viewers in the future and past on “Earth’s Wild Ride”. A tour of the season’s night sky, its constellations and planets demonstrates the lovely views Earthlings still enjoy today in Maine.

Our planetarium spaceship blasts off on a tour that takes us to each member of the solar system. All nine planets, some of their moons and minor members of the Solar System reveal fascinating spacescapes. Their hostile environments and similarities to Earth are explained by mission specialists onboard. A live tour of the winter constellations also includes stars of the Maine sky. A space tour of the planets on the planetarium ship, Draco.

Our funny expert, Coyote, is a little confused about what he sees in the sky. Join this character (adapted from American Indian oral traditions) in a fast-paced and fun Omnidome show that explores lunar phases, eclipses, sky motions and other puzzles. Engaging and immersive, Earth, Moon, & Sun illustrates the natural rhythms and cycles of our sky and the host will add a live tour of the season’s constellations.

Open to all youth ages 5–18. Youth ages 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Adult and teen volunteers welcome. No prior experience needed. Registration is free and includes all materials. Space is limited. Register at the library.
